As America celebrates 250 years of independence, it’s worth asking an important question:
What made America truly exceptional?
In The Foundation We Must Not Forget, Pastor Keela Craft Ambrose reminds us that America’s strength was never simply found in military power, economics, or politics. America’s foundation began with a people who believed that freedom comes from God and that truth exists outside of ourselves.

Truth Isn’t Always Comfortable
One of the strongest themes throughout the message is that truth doesn’t exist to make us comfortable—it exists to make us free.
Jesus never promised that truth would always feel good. Instead, He promised:
“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)
Freedom begins when we embrace God’s truth instead of creating our own version of reality.
Our culture often encourages personal truth, feelings, or public opinion to become the highest authority. Scripture points us somewhere entirely different.
God Himself is truth.

America Was Built on a Biblical Foundation
Pastor Keela explained that America’s founders didn’t invent new ideas about human rights—they acknowledged truths already established by God.
The Declaration of Independence recognizes that every person is “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.”
Those words matter.
If government gives rights, government can remove them.
If culture creates truth, culture can redefine it.
But if God is the source of truth and human dignity, then no earthly authority stands above Him.
America’s founders believed that objective morality—God’s moral law—produced just laws and lasting freedom.

Objective Truth vs. Cultural Opinion
The message contrasted three different approaches to morality:
- Subjective morality: “I decide what’s right.”
- Collective morality: “Society decides what’s right.”
- Objective morality: “God determines what’s right.”
Only objective morality provides a stable foundation for justice because truth doesn’t change when public opinion changes.
As followers of Christ, our standard isn’t culture.
Our standard is God’s Word.

Freedom Has a Foundation
Freedom isn’t self-sustaining.
Every generation must decide whether it will preserve the principles that made freedom possible.
America’s founders believed that liberty required virtue, virtue required morality, and morality required God’s truth.
Without character, freedom eventually collapses into chaos.
True freedom isn’t doing whatever we want.
Biblical freedom is living the way God designed us to live.

Christians Are Called to Influence Culture
Pastor Keela challenged believers to reject the idea that faith should remain private.
Throughout Scripture, God’s people influenced governments, communities, education, and culture.
The same calling exists today.
Christians aren’t called to withdraw from society—they’re called to faithfully represent Christ wherever God has placed them.
Whether at work, in schools, in neighborhoods, or in public service, every believer carries Kingdom influence.

Every Generation Must Protect the Foundation
The message also reflected on the sacrifices made by America’s founders.
Signing the Declaration of Independence wasn’t symbolic—it cost many of them their homes, fortunes, families, and even their lives.
Their courage reminds us that freedom always requires responsibility.
Today, our responsibility may look different, but the calling remains the same:
- Know God’s truth.
- Live with courage.
- Build strong families.
- Lead with integrity.
- Pass biblical values to the next generation.

Jesus Is the True Foundation
Ultimately, the message pointed beyond America’s history to the only foundation that lasts forever.
Scripture teaches that no one can lay any foundation other than Jesus Christ.
Political systems rise and fall.
Cultures change.
Generations come and go.
But Christ remains the unshakable foundation for every life, every family, and every nation that chooses to follow Him.

What Will We Build?
As America enters another generation, the question isn’t simply what kind of nation we’ll become.
It’s what kind of people we’ll become.
Will we build on changing opinions?
Or will we build on God’s unchanging truth?
The foundation we choose today determines the legacy we leave tomorrow.
